For respect for the man who infact revealed south Africa to the entire world, bring sometime as well as go to the Livingstone Memorial found within the town of Kasanka, right after Kasanka National Park.
Constructed 100 years following the death of Dr. Livingstone, this site is really worth a visit. In early May 1873, Livingstone died from serious dysentery as well as malaria while visiting the swamps and rivers attached to the Bangwelu Swamps. It seems that, his 3 followers buried his heart by the nearest Mpundu wild tree and later on transferred his body for the coast from where it became taken to England for burial.
There was clearly some inscription on the tree indicating the particular date of this death and also his followers’ names. The tree was later on cut down and then replaced instead with a concrete memorial. The original curving was in fact shipped to England where it is actually shown within the museum of the Royal Geographical Society in London and the different metal cast has been kept within the Livingstone Museum.
Access is by the left turn just after Serenje on the way to Kasanka National Park. Pursue the signs, 26kms down the road. The route is spotted with decorated Bemba houses framed in significant Miombo woodlands. Pay a visit to the neighboring clinic to sign the Visitor’s Book just for records.
